We are looking someone to join our support team to help at training days and tournaments both at home and away (twice a year). It would be preferable that this person be a woman who could travel with and support our female players. The team trains weekly at the Rarangi Golf club at 3:30pm during winter months (and 4:30pm in summer).
Volunteers will gain skills and will find huge reward in working with and helping people with learning difficulties, they will be joining an enthusiastic and dedicated team who are all part a long-established international organization that aims to provide positive sporting and social opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
Volunteers need to be enthusiastic, patient and have a good sense of humour.
There will be induction and training for volunteers and a comprehensive handbook is provided. The organization also has easy on-line training modules we encourage volunteers to complete. Police vetting (criminal record check) will be carried out with any new volunteers and is reviewed regularly.
Special Olympics has firm guidelines around volunteers ensuring their safety and wellbeing as well as the athletes’. Volunteers are encouraged to be as active in the organization as they want, most attend social events, Christmas parties etc. and often travel with the teams to regional and national events (at no cost).
