As a Career Mentor your role will be to build a trusting relationship with 2-3 students aged 16-17 years in our Career Navigator programme. You will be supporting them to create a purposeful pathway upon leaving school. You will meet your students 3 times a term (every 2-3 weeks) at school to help them explore their ideas, research, chat through possible actions and debrief on experiences. Some group outings will be arranged including opportunities for work-site visits and team building experiences. Career Mentors will keep in touch with their students via text or facebook messenger and will be supported by a programme coordinator who will help arrange meetings, provide training and resources.
- Skills /Education: We are after a diverse group of mentors which a range of educational background and skills. Mentors do need to be in work so they can role model this experience to young people. Our most successful mentors are those that are passionate about young people and want to help young people with the sometimes scary prospect of transitioning into work or further study.
- Personality requirements: Good listener/communicator, patient, caring, compassionate, willing to share their experiences and someone who can commit to the length of the programme
- A Police background check is required for this role.
- You will meet your students 3 times a term (every 2-3 weeks) at school between March – October 2019. Initial training will be held on Tuesday 19 March and Monday 25 March from 5.30pm -8.30pm. Career Mentors and students will attend a series of events where they will get to know each other so that matching can occur ready to start mentoring meetings in term 2 and 3. Graduation will be held in October.
