This application covers all seasonal mussel processing positions. Tasks are mainly related to mussel grading, opening (shucking), inspection, packing and factory cleaning/preparation.
There are 3 shifts available to work on: Processing Day shift (6:00am - 3:00pm); Processing Night shift (3:30pm - 12:30am); Hygiene (cleaning) shift (12:00am - 5:00am). The processing shifts run Monday to Friday, the hygiene shift runs Tuesday to Saturday.
Processing shifts consist of three sub-shifts of 2h40min each, with 30min breaks between. Tasks generally involve standing at a work station for this time and consist of repetitive movements. Other tasks may involve some heavy lifting. Appropriate protective equipment is supplied to employees. The working environment may be noisy/hot/cold/humid, depending on the task and location within the factory, with the possibility of exposure to chemicals and/or potential allergens e.g. mussel juice.
The processing season generally runs from October to July but start and finish dates vary from season to season, depending on when the mussels are in suitable condition for processing.
