Job Description

Assist in eradicating Old Man’s Beard (Clematis vitalba), an invasive weed, from the Waima Valley area.

We are looking for a group of volunteers to assist in eradicating Old Man’s Beard (Clematis vitalba), an invasive weed, from the Waima Valley area.
This task involves cutting/pruning of the plant, and then poisoning the stump. This is a simple task but quite labour-intensive.
Pruning saws and other equipment can be provided by the Waima Valley Ecological Restoration Society but volunteers may like to bring their own.
Volunteers should bring their own protective gloves, wear long pants and sleeves, and sturdy footwear.
The terrain can be steep in places which means volunteers will need to be reasonably physically fit.
Timing is flexible – tell us when you’re available and we will work to your schedule. Choose between half and full day. (The Waima Valley is an hour’s drive from Blenheim)
Volunteers will need to bring their own lunch and a water bottle.

The Waima Valley Ecological Restoration Society is a group of landowners working to eradicate weeds and restore Waima Valley’s indigenous flora. Currently, the Society is focussed on eradicating Old Man’s Beard, but may look at controlling other species in the future.
